University of Pune
The University of Pune (formerly the University of Poona) is a university located in northwest Pune, India. It has a 400 acre (1.6 km²) campus. It was established on February 10, 1949 and is home to 46 academic departments.
History
The university was established under the Poona University Act, passed by the Bombay legislature on February 10, 1948. In the same year, Dr. M.R. Jayakar assumed office as the first vice chancellor of the university. Shri B.G. Kher, Chief Minister and Education Minister of the government of Bombay, helped ensure the university received a large allocation of land for their campus. In early 1950, the university was allocated over 411 acres (1.7 km²).
Jurisdiction
Initially the university had a jurisdiction extending over 12 districts of western Maharashtra. However, with the establishment of Shivaji University in Kolhapur in 1964, the jurisdiction of the university was restricted to 5 districts, namely Pune, Ahmednagar, Nasik, Dhule and Jalgaon. Out of these, two districts — Dhule and Jalgaon — are attached to the North Maharashtra University established in August 1990.
Affiliations
In 1949, there were only 18 colleges affiliated to the university, with an enrollment of over 8000 students. Thereafter, the number of colleges increased, and in 2004, the university had 46 graduate departments, 269 affiliated colleges and 118 recognized research institutions, with an enrollment of 1,70,000 students for both the undergraduate and graduate courses in different faculties.
Research
70 research institutions have been recognized by the University for research. These include institutions of national importance like the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), MACS, CWPRS, NIV, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Deccan College among others. BIOTECH TRAINING AND PROJECTS
ATG Biosystems conducts following courses for life sciences students.
1. Training programs in Biotechnology ***
We are also providing training for biotech students at different levels. (All courses will be full time, so that students not only DO JUST protocols AS TECHNICIANS but also learn basic day to day lab work and should recieve all techniques and make best out of it during their tenure in our lab).
10 days /- (wet lab overviews with 2 PCRs)
15 days /- (Basic and advanced input with 3 PCRs)
20 days /- (DNA extraction, Basic PCR, Advance PCR,applied PCR, rDNA technology)
30 days /-(DNA & RNA extraction,PCR-basic, applied, advanced, gradient, RT PCR; rDNA Tech, bioinformatics, proteins) (***updated on May18, 2008)
2. Workflow based training in Biotechnology
e.g. bacterial identification by molecular methods complete project starting from bacterial isolation, DNA extraction, PCR, DNA sequencing and BLAST (Phylogeny for publication), student can use data for submitting in their final year dissertation / research project. This work can be published and student may get authorship in the publication with some additional work.
(combination of microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics)
(Duration 4 weeks to 6 weeks- Full time)
3. Research projects in Biotechnology
Duration 3-4 months
(Actual cost will be decided on the basis of consumbles required for that project. Duration - minimum 3 months). This projects will not consists any animal / human samples. Students who need projects in medical biotechnology need to get sample as well as ethical and other clearance from their institutes / hospitals.
For joining any course for registration in advance send following documents.
1. Request letter with details i.e. 1. name of course 2. duration 3. joining date
2. DD of Rs. 500/- in favor of “ATG LAB” payable at Pune
3. Letter from college authority (course coordinator/ HOD)
4. Resume
5.One recent passport size photograph
Two certificates ( 1.certificate for course title/duration and 2. certificates with day to day activities in detai i.e content certificate) will be given for training programs. Generally we run batch of 10 students but each student will perform all hands on training independently.
