Thoughts for 2007

Posted in Inspiration, Miscellaneous at 7:41 am by PuneTalks

“It is better to have a wise man as an enemy than to have a fool as a friend.”
Anonymous

“There can be nothing more wrong than being right all the time.”
Confucius

“Love what you do. I think that’s the most important thing. Whatever you decide to do, don’t do it for money or for external reasons. Do it because you genuinely love it.”
Louise Olsen,
Stephan Ormandy & Liane Rossler, Dinosaur Designs

“The best thing people can do is quietly rehabilitate a square metre of land.”
Bill Mollison, PERMAnent CULTURE

“A fish rots from the head. In a kitchen or a business the person up the top should be responsible for his staff down below in terms of motivation and attitude. Never give up.”
Luke Mangan, Chef, Salt

“Success is about taking risks … educated risks and being prepared to stumble and stumble again. I think you can’t strive for success unless you’re prepared to fail.”
Poppy King, Poppy Industries

“Albert Einstein said this in 1939 and it is profoundly forward thinking, ‘Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution of a vegetarian diet.”
Paul Mathis, Restaurateur, Chocolate Buddha, Soulmama, Transport

“Work like you don’t need the money, love like you’ve never been hurt and dance like nobody’s watching”.
Anonymous

“It can take longer than you think sometimes, but if you have faith in yourself, never give up and you will succeed.”
Maggi Sietsma,
Artistic Director Expressions Dance Company

“You don’t need to be a brilliant student to be a brilliant engineer. As with many other aspects of life it’s the value of experience that must appreciated and recognised. Those who make the most of their experiences are most likely to succeed.”
Anonymous

“Invest in yourself. Quench your thirst. Because no matter how much you have in the external world you cannot possibly enjoy it and get the most out of what life has to offer you unless you discover and maintain wellbeing in your internal world.”
Anonymous

“I was travelling down the Amazon River with a mate of mine. There was not much to do except admire the jungle and catch the occasional Piranha. Anyway this native Brazilian guy approached us and came on board. He had this t-shirt on which had a picture of Albert Einstein on it. It was taken on Einstein’s 72nd birthday and he was poking his tongue out. Suddenly it all clicked. This was the man of the century, the Times man of the year, the guy who discovered Relativity. Here he was poking his tongue out like a little kid. And I thought of he was doing it at 72 what was he like when he was 26. So my words of wisdom are ‘don’t grow up’ because once you do you become boring you don’t want to accept anything new. We should all think like Einstein and the moment we think we know it all, we just poke our tongue out at the camera.
Yahoo Serious, Actor

“Never regret the past, always live in the now.”
Jessica Napier, Actor

“Think more, say less and be patient and good to each other,”
Anonymous

“When God gives you a gift he wraps it in a problem.”

MY MANIFESTO: Don’t specialise. Keep your desk neat, clean and empty. This means you are staying on top of everything. Treat employees and clients the way you would like to be treated by them. Return every email, phone call, and fax the same day it arrives regardless of where you are in the world. Before giving birth to anything physical, ask yourself if you have created an original idea, an original concept, or if there is any real value in what you disseminate. Know everything about the history of your profession and then forget it all when you design something new. Never say ‘I could have done that’ because you didn’t. To be is to build (Headgear). Unveil an actuality – create a surprise, a phenomenological event. Good Karma, Observe everything, everyone and EVERY MOMENT. Work is fun, beautiful and rewarding. Don’t work with someone if you sense different views, or because you believe there is potential because there probably isn’t. There is not potential in everything or every project. Don’t work on your weaknesses, work on your strengths. If you do not like your job, quit! Laziness is the anti-Christ. If your not talented, do something else. Reduce the cards – take the fillers out of your life. Carry one credit card and no coins. Own 30 pairs of black socks, and 30 pairs of the same coloured underwear so that socks always match, and do your laundry every month. For everything you buy, you must give away the same object - so you always stay at equilibrium and never accumulate more then you need. Don’t consume or overeat because you are depressed. Consume experiences not things. Do 10 things at once, and then you will never be bored. Don’t use words like taste, class, boredom, style or mass. Pleasure is more physiological than physical. Minimalism can be friendly. More is more. Form follows subject/object follows subject. Don’t dream it, be it. Celebrate technology. Normal is not good. Never be satisfied with your work. Perseverance, consistency, and rigour. Being famous should not be a priority. Pay your dooze. Work is life. Think extensively, not intensively. Relaxed, not rigid. Omni Vincent Amor. “Here and now is all we got”. Be the change you want to see in the world-Gandhi.
Karim Rashid, Designer/Directing Agent of Karim Rashid Inc

“Always be willing to think outside the box and never think you can do it all on your own.”
Brett Godfrey, Virgin Blue CEO

“Work harder and smarter, and you will get lucky!”
Ian Hollick, Hollick Wines Pty Ltd

“Don’t shy away from saying no to the easier path and saying yes to that which is more difficult but is what you want to do.”
Kate Champion, Founder & Artistic Director of Force Majeure

“Always be proud of who you are and what you believe in.”
Steve Novello, Coffee Roaster, Di Bella Coffee

“If you’re honest, you can’t go wrong really. You might not be successful but you just can’t go wrong. That’s ironic coming from an adman.”
#50 Steve Minon, Creative Director, Junior

“Keep your eye in the big picture. There are certain things I want to achieve in my life and it is important not to lose my way. Don’t get caught up in it all and forget to enjoy yourself.”
Rebecca Davies, Fashion Designer, Bare

Work out exactly who you are, and then try and be the ultimate person you can be, That way, you are competing with only yourself, using your own intuition, and not comparing yourself to envying others. If you can achieve your personal best on this earth, it is almost a sacred thing, almost godlike. Try to achieve your best by eliminating friction, adulteration and interference. We should all try to achieve this, but we never fully arrive. The task of trying to attain your best is the goal, and that’s the real award. Not some great reward or payback in the end.”
Jeremy Andrew, Artist and Designer
