Why are we so emotional every time India loses?
India lost to Bangladesh in the first World Cup tie. The reactions from people made it look like the team had done something really shameful and unpardonable? We lost to the worst team in the world? Our players did not play at all?
That really wasn’t the case.
Bangladesh isn’t like Ireland or Bermuda or Canada, countries that play international cricket very infrequently. Bangladesh has been on the cricketing map for some time and have upset a few big teams. Their strike bowler Mashrafe Mortaza, in fact was the biggest wicket taker in 2006. So these men are definitely not virgins at the game. They do have a recent history of having played quality cricket and did put on an extremley good show, batting bowling and fielding in the game against India.
Also India did have 2 batsmen that had decent scores of 66 and 47. So it wasn’t like no one performed. And the final score of 191 .. was not a bad one ..
If you remember right, this is the same team that got West indies all out for 84 runs in the warm up matches. No one scripted an obituary for the West Indies based on that one match. Australia lost 6 matches in a row .. and two tournaments. No one wrote them off.
But India and Pakistan .. all they need to do is lose one match .. and people have pretty much script the epitaph. At least Pakistan losing to Ireland may be understandable .. but they are still the 4th ranked team in one day cricket.And people are talking of how poor the team is? How come a team is ranked 4th and hits rock bottom after losing a couple of matches?
India in fact are ranked 6th, West Indies 8th and Bangladesh 9th. So we’re not too far from Bangladesh, just 2 notches away. the New Zealand team is 2 notches above us, but if we defeat them, will anyone in NZ announce the death of that team. No.

In test rankings, Pakistan are ranked much higher. But this team has been dismissed by everyone on the basis of one loss.
So … there is nothing wrong with the teams.
India today scored 413, it’s highest one day score and the highest world cup score, 2 days after everyone had buried them. Isn’t that amazing?
And just yesterday someone was saying .. look these guys get fat endorsements and so are not motivated to play?
People need to get real and look at facts.
Everyone in team India is committed to winning.
They get endorsements because sponsors believe that they are worth the money.
If you think they don’t deserve the money, stop buying the products they endorse or better still stop watching the game. The TRP’s will plummet and the players will earn less.
If you do plan to watch the game, understand that it is just that - a GAME.
If you or me were playing for India .. being watched by more than half a billion Indian people globally .. we would be hugely hugely interested in winning for ourselves and the country.
Stop putting our cricketers to test for every loss and then putting them on a pedestal for every win. Get real.
