Collective Boredom
Collective Boredom is an old disease hitting the new world.
This disease has hit everyone; age, sex, marital status, educational background immaterial. And has also traversed geographical boundaries.
Everyone is pretty much bored.
If you’re working, you’re bored
if you’re not, even then you are bored.
If you’re poor, you’re bored … and think being rich might help … the rich have done all there is to do …and are still bored.
If you’re working and have just done your graduation, you think doing a post grad might help.
But the post grads have been there before … and they know it doesn’t.
Single people think married people are happy … and based on this thinking they get married.
Well then you get married … thinking this is it … and then it hits you that it isn’t.
So maybe having kids is? Everyone who has kids is swearing by them and the happiness they generate and how they complete their lives. So there kids solve the problem.
And then you have kids … and very soon realize that this is the biggest scam you’ve got yourself into. Much much bigger than Amway, Quickstar or any other Multi level Marketing scheme. And you then stay awake all night while they wail for nutrition and attention. You spend the days changing diapers and hope they will get toilet trained!!
All this pretty much leaves you a raving insomniac and that’s not much progress.
All you ask for now is a toilet trained kid.
By the time this happens, all you want to do is get those darn kids out of your way. You realize that other people have been through this problem and have also come up with a solution- JAIL. No SCHOOL !! So there you drag them into nursery and LKG and UKG.
Things still stay the same and then you think when they get to 1st Std things will change.
But 1st standard kids’ parents know that this ain’t true .. and they too hope that second standard will change things..
But it doesn’t and the saga of boredom continues .. and multiplies ..
In this multiplicity .. people hope that college will be the solution .. and once in college.. work .
“Haven’t I heard this somewhere before.. ?? ”
Oh Yes .. that’s what I started with.
Different people at different stages of boredom interact with each other and help transmit this disease, that scientists will soon call Collective Boredom. Since I have hit on this first, I will soon be publishing a book on the same, collecting my Doctorate in Behavioral Sciences, and winning the Nobel Prize in due course. Some Hollywood jock will definitely be making a movie on it.
In case you’re looking for a role .. speak up now (positions for extra no 24 in scene 354b, in the subway are still open).. tomorrow I will be too busy and famous to respond !!
(And if you are not bored .. please send me a mail from Mars .. coz I’m sure you do not live on this planet !!)

I am so sorry to disappoint you but your thesis has a serious flaw, I was NOT BORED reading it and I am NOT FROM MARS rather from right here, yes Pune, in fact it amused me excessively and lets face it, that and not the doctorate in behavorial sciences was after all your true intention in writing this. Congrats on succeeding then.
You did forget a few things, the boredom of going through the ABC teaching process which often exceeds that of the phase of washing the interminal bottles and changing the never ending diapers that went before.
There must be some reward in this though do you think watching your kids struggle through all with their own kids, that you went through with them might offer some laughs. I am sure there must be some justice somewhere.
Well Thanks for an interesting post. Looking forward to more. After all the ennui is showing signs of returning and I must find some quick solutions for alleviating it.

wow! I never knew boredom could make such an interesting piece of reading. You have touched the right cord…and I have begun to realize how much time have i wasted in getting bored by doing nothing rather than doing something and getting bored. But boredom is destiny for all, and the earth would have to spin like a zoombie to change everything fr evrybody at everytime……just imagine , how much the earth would have been bored of us just being with her all the time….nyways cheers!!
