Facing challenges

Times Of India: Four young ladies have done the city proud by foraying into the Armed Forces courageously to face the challenges ahead.

23-yr-old Anuja Warudkar, remembers the time when she frequented Vaishali to drool over the NDA cadets in uniforms! Inspired by their discipline, Anuja decided to join the army. Sports like horse-riding, para-sailing appealed her and her fondest wish was to join the Infantry! Her 24-yr-old colleague Aboli Deshpande, recalls sleeping during drills and running sessions, “The tough life made us so tired, we slept virtually anywhere and had to be constantly woken up by our trainers!”

…Aboli strongly believes that mental strength is the main quality that keeps you going. Her most cherishable moments while training were the physical drills like digging trenches all night, going for long runs and sharing camaraderie with her pals!

Just 22-yr-old, Sumalata Nagraj, credits her success to her thorough and meticulous preparation. “It’s thrilling to get such respect from the army jawans,” she beams. Following the foot-steps of her idol Kiran Bedi, she thinks, it’s mandatory to keep a balance between sensitivity and strength.

Winners always : The Boys from NDA

Times Of India: These uniformed hunks are out for a spin on Sundays and general holidays at the Fergusson College Road, Deccan, MG Road and Camp area.

Cadet Pulkit Dewan says, “We have around ten hours to shop, eat, stroll and get the weekly chores done in the market. Shilpa Jaiswal, IT recruiter at Sellcraft Softech says, “It’s their smart movements and uniform that makes these cadets appealing.”
Reveals Ruchi Jaiswal, an ex-student of Fergusson College, “Two years back these cadets took our cell numbers and one of their officers invited us to the ball. That was wonderful. I am still in touch with one of them.”

Attitude, personality, discipline and their shy demeanor, these are the qualities that most girls say they are drawn to.

There are some other confessions too. Nishigandha, a student of MBA at the Singhad Institute of Management says, “I think, their presence is more surrounded by hype as portrayed in the movies, but undoubtedly they carry themselves in a great dignified manner.”

Rahul Bose in Town

Times Of india: In town for a book reading programme organised by British Council Library at the main hall of the FTII on Monday evening, Rahul tells us about the Hollywood film that he is doing. “It’s a pre-Independence setting in Kerala - 1937. It’s a fabulous script,” mentions Rahul.

And masala Bollywood flicks are a strict no-no for this actor. “I am never going to do that. “It’s too boring,” says Rahul.

And before he signs off, Rahul has a word for Pune. “It’s a special city. Cosmopolitan where cultural ethos and middle-class is dominating. It’s a progressive city,” says Rahul for the city he loves.
