Creative sues Apple over Ipod interface

tgdaily Creative is pointing its legal guns at Apple and hopes that the U.S. International Trade Commission will issue an injunction against Apple that keeps the company from selling the Ipod portable media player in the U.S. Creative also filed a suit that seeks damages for “willful” patent infringement.

Creative’s legal attack and suit against Apple was just a matter of time, as the manufacturer of the “Zen” and “Nomad” series of MP3 players mentioned several times in the past that it would enforce its “Zen” patent. That patent, granted in August of last year, describes a way of automatically organizing digital music collections into categories - and the company claims that Apple’s Ipod, Ipod Nano and Ipod Mini infringe on the firm’s intellectual property.

Snap: A New Idea in Search

business2.blogs Snap.com, the Idealab search engine from Bill Gross, is officially launching on Monday after a year in beta. Gross, as some will remember, also started GoTo.com at Idealab, which became Overture and now powers Yahoo’s search ad business. GoTo.com was the first search engine to auction off keywords and create the pay-per-click model that adds up to billions of dollars today for all the major search engines. But with Snap.com, which is based on a pay-per-action or affiliate model, Gross is trying to push the business of search a little further. “We started this company the day that Overture was sold to Yahoo,” explains Tom McGovern, the CEO of Snap. “The goal was not to do another Overture.”
