Indian Express Taking a step closer towards merging the two transport corporations in the region — Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Transport — the State government has formed a new company with a one-time Rs 40 crore grant. The Pune Metropolitan Region Transport Corporation (PMRTC) has been incorporated under the Road Transport Company Act, 1950, with the divisional commissioner as its chairman and the two municipal commissioners and general managers of the transport corporations as its interim directors.
The much-awaited merger of the two corporations that was recommended by the Bhure Lal Committee for solving the transport problems of the region will go a long way in solving the commuters’ woes and cutting down the losses of the two corporations.

Indian Express If the unique public-private partnership promise to put an end to load-shedding in the city is good news, here is another reason to cheer. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has decided to promote energy conservation in a big way and for starters, it is distributing over 3 crore power saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to domestic consumers in the State at subsidised rates.
The bulbs, which promise to save up to 75 per cent of lighting power, will be especially beneficial for Pune consumers, as they have to ensure that their monthly electricity bill remains below 300 units to avoid paying an extra charge of 42 paise per unit under the ‘no load-shedding’ plan.
According to MSEDCL officials, while one unit of electricity can run a normal 40-watt bulb for 25 hours, it will run a 10-watt CFL bulb for 100 hours, resulting in power saving for consumers. Also, the luminosity of CFL bulbs is more — a 22-watt CFL is equivalent to a 100-watt normal bulb.
