City multiplexes are still unsure about the status on the film’s release, with Yashraj Films — the producers of Fanaa — trying to drive a hard bargain with multiplexes for a higher ticket share.

With a day left for the scheduled release of the film, most city multiplexes have not started advance bookings as well. ‘‘We had drawn up a grand marketing plan but we are still awaiting the final decision from Mumbai, where discussions between the Multiplex Association of India and Yashraj’s distributors are still going on,’’ says Robin Saini,assistant marketing manager Gold Adlabs. The multiplex is keeping its fingers crossed particularly about 30-odd corporate bookings that would rake in a handsome Rs 14 lakh.

Microsoft has advised users of Word to run the application in Safe Mode in order to protect against “zero-day” attacks. The recommendation comes after the discovery of a serious flaw in the word processor that could result in code execution.

The vulnerability can be exploited after a user opens a specially crafted Word file with a malformed object pointer. The issue causes memory to corrupt, and opens a hole that allows for code execution. The flaw can also be exploited through e-mail or the Web, however it requires the opening of a malicious file.

Google’s expecting a new list of Orkut communities that Brazilian authorities believe violate local law, a Google representative said May 24.

The list was drafted following a meeting Tuesday that Google representatives had in Brazil, with the same officials. The topic concerned how some Orkut communities promote hate speech, child pornography and some forms of political extremism, all of which violates Brazilian law.

THE irrigation department has submitted a Rs 14.70-crore proposal for constructing a barrage-cum-bridge on Mula-Mutha river at Bund Garden. Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer said the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon invite tenders for the construction and the work will begin after monsoon. The irrigation department has set deadline of the completion of the project to two years.

Four months ago, the irrigation department had given ‘in-principle’ approval for the construction of the barrage-cum-bridge. The barrage-cum-bridge is meant for flood control and also to solve traffic congestion on the Fitzgerald Bridge.
