businessweek Google the term “magic advertising words” and you’ll instantly get over 8 million results. But caveat emptor — don’t buy into everything you read, because your prospective buyer certainly won’t.
From the time marketing began, there has never been a shortage of self-appointed experts who claim to have identified the words that will unlock your customers’ wallets. In the Internet age their advice is even easier to come by. They promise that words such as “you,” “guarantee,” “easy,” “limited-time,” and the old standby, “free,” will generate surefire results. If only it were that simple.
As a smart business person, you probably know that there are no such things as magic words, particularly in a culture that has been saturated with advertising. But there’s something else you should know: Not only do magic advertising words not exist, several of them actually work against you. And chances are, you’re using at least one of them in your advertising now.
Brace yourself. Here are five of the advertising words you should never use:
Quality
This may be the most overused word in advertising, which is the primary reason why you should stay away from it. What exactly does “quality” mean? (Read Full article)

Indian Express TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) will invest Rs 500 crore in its new software development facility that it is planning in Pune. According to TCS, it has signed an MoU with the State government to acquire 50 acres of land to set up a development facility in Hinjewadi Phase III, which is part of the Special Economic Zone promoted by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The facility will initially have a capacity of 5,000 seats, which will be ramped up to 10,000 seats in the long term.
In addition to the software development centre, the new Hinjewadi facility will also house professionals from TCS’s R&D and Engineering services’ groups.
“Pune is emerging as promising IT hub for companies and TCS plans to play an integral role in the further development of the local economy by working with academic institutions and help train and develop talent in the region and the state,” said S. Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director of TCS.

Indian Express THE Higher Secondary Certificate examination results have been declared and the admission process to professional and other courses will begin soon. It’s just the right moment for the Income-Tax department to swing into action against defaulters, says highly placed sources.
As such, the I-T department has written to several city-based educational institutions seeking details of parents paying over Rs 1 lakh a year as tuition, hostel fees and mess charges. Senior officials from Income Tax department said notices have been sent to at least 80 educational institutions in the city seeking these details.
The idea is to sniff out defaulters. Once the department gets the details, a through scrutiny of Income-Tax accounts of the parents will be carried out. ‘‘We will look for details like their income, tax liability, payment of tax and whether the money paid towards the educational fees is shown in their income. If any discrepancies are found, action would be taken against the defaulters,’’ officials said.

Indian Express CONSIDER this.
* Nearly 80,000 people are killed in accidents every year in India.
* At least 30 to 45 minutes lapse between the time of a crash and arrival at a hospital.
* Twelve per cent of institutions in the trauma care sector have no access to ambulances.
* Only 50 per cent of the available ambulance services possess the acute care facilities needed to keep an accident victim alive during transportation. And only four per cent of personnel staffing these services receive certified formal training.
THESE are statistics that underline the urgent need for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). While the EMS project in the city has yet to take off with public and corporation hospitals, the response from the private hospitals has been an encouraging one.
Says Mohan Audhi, founder trustee of Pune Heart Brigade (PHB) which initiated the EMS project in Pune along with Sanjeevan Hospital and Rotary Club of Pune South in 1999, ‘‘Today, the EMS facilities are in place with eight hospitals and a few more in the pipeline.’’
