Dry spell will continue: IMD

The Times of India:PUNE:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has ruled out the possibility of revival of rain over the country, barring north-eastern states, for the next few days. While the lean phase is being described as ‘not unusual’, authorities at the IMD office here have attributed the subdued monsoon activity to the absence of a ‘triggering mechanism’ required for advancing the south-west monsoon.

“There are no signs yet of any spectacular revival of the monsoon for the next two to three days,” said N. Jayanthi, deputy director general for weather forecasting at the IMD. “We are going through a lean phase primarily due to the absence of any synoptic system like a low pressure area or cyclonic circulation either in the Bay of Bengal or on the Arabian sea side,” she said. The entire activity has shifted to the north-east, she added.

TCS announces Rs 500-crore plan

The Times Of India :PUNE: With software major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announcing plans to establish a mega information technology (IT) facility in Pune, the IT community here has emphasised that in view of such plans, greater attention needs to be paid to upgrade the city’s infrastructure.

The TCS, which signed an MoU with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in Mumbai, has committed Rs 500 crore investment at the new facility expected to come up in two years, over 20.23 hectare land at Hinjewadi phase III.
While Pune’s IT community sounded upbeat about the development, the contention being raised vis-avis infrastructure is that Pune can barely afford to be complacent at a time when most IT majors, Indian and foreign, were demonstrating a greater realisation about the city’s importance in the global IT map.
