Attack code comes on heels of Microsoft patches

GoogleNews :Just a day after Microsoft released patches for vulnerabilities in some of its software, code designed to take advantage of those weaknesses appeared on the Internet.

Most of the patches that Microsoft issued were for flaws that were widely known. But at least two flaws were made public for the first time on Tuesday as part of the company’s monthly security update.

Security firms reported finding the code in Wednesday. The exploit code for previously unknown flaws means hackers could use the code to pounce on computer systems where managers are slow to apply patches.

HP Banks on Next-Generation Blade Architecture

CIONews :Hewlett-Packard(HP) on Wednesday unveiled its next-generation blade server architecture with new features designed to ease data center challenges such as systems management and power and cooling.

The new HP BladeSystem c-Class box replaces the company’s existing BladeSystem p-Class, which HP said it will support through 2012. When compared to HP’s rack-mounted systems, the new architecture enables significant acquisition, data-center facilities and installation savings, said HP executives at a launch event in Palo Alto, Calif., that was also webcast. According to its own internal tests, the new system showed up to a 46 percent cost saving over the rack-mounted systems.

The new 17-inch box, which supports server, storage and client blades, is the foundation of HP’s new strategy to “blade everything,” said Ann Livermore, executive vice president of the technology solutions group for HP.

The proposal comes after the State government issued a notification on June 6 asking the Pune Municipal Corporation to consider allowing residential properties to come up in areas where the industries have closed down.

Under the PMC limits, a total of 1,000 hectare including areas like the Hadapsar Industrial Estate is currently under the industrial zone. If the amendment comes through, it will allow industrial land owners to convert it for residential and commercial purposes

PCMC officer locked up in subway for two hours

Indian Express:The Dilip Band-led PCMC administration, which has been under fire for keeping the town unclean and stinking, on Monday faced one of its worst embarrassments. Irked by inaction over their complaints, a clutch of citizens of Kasarwadi on Monday morning locked up a civic officer in an underground subway for two hours and then blackened the face of an executive engineer.

Led by Kamruddin Tamboli and Subhash Landge, the citizens requested health inspector Abhijeet Gumaste to survey the underground subway — located on the Pune-Mumbai highway at Kasarwadi. They complained to the officer that the subway, which is used by hundreds of residents to cross over to the other side, was filled with drainage water for three weeks. As soon as Gumaste entered the subway to verify the complaint, the citizens downed the shutters of the subway and locked up the officer. Despite his requests, he was not freed. Even police officers who landed on the spot could not help the matter.
