Sassoon docs raise the pitch over teaching beds

IndianExpress: TROUBLE seems to be brewing at the Department of Chest and TB, BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital with its post-graduate students threatening a hunger strike if the TB ward in the Aundh General Hospital is not relocated to the SGH campus. Presently, the TB ward is 12 km away from Sassoon Hospital and poses problems for patients and students alike.

Moreover, it is mandatory according to Medical Council of India that all teaching beds be located in a single campus or at least within a 5 km distance from the parent institute. These norms have been flouted as the teaching beds of the Department of Chest and TB, BJ Medical College are situated 12 km off the main campus.

ZP dismisses teacher for absence

IndianExpress: AT a time when the Centre and the State claim to be making all-out attempts to provide education to all, students from a remote village in Bhor taluka were suffered due to the absence of their teacher. The teacher was dismissed on Wednesday.

The incident came to light when some villagers came to Pune and complained to the Chief Executive Office of Pune Zilla Parishad.

Located at Rayreshwar village in hilly areas of Bhor taluka, the school has some 45 students in various classes. Since the number of students is less and since not many teachers show willingness to work at such remote places, the Pune Zilla Parishad — which runs the school — has deployed only one teacher. The teacher, Satish Pawar, is also a resident of a nearby village.

Birdies par excelIence

IndianExpress: CLAD in olive greens, yellows, oranges and deep reds—the colours of autumn— 35 ladies came together at the Poona Club Golf Course on August 24 for an All Ladies Golf Tournament presented in the theme of ‘Autumn Colours’.
“The golf season has been quite dull these past few weeks, so we thought that this event with awards, lunch and a theme would perk things up, plus it would bring women on to the golf course for a tournament, something that isn’t very common this side,” says Meher Nicholson, one of the event organisers.

Making the rules of the game slightly flexible, the ladies were allowed to choose their own partners for the game.

IntelliMouse Explorer glides back to life

News.com: Scheduled for resurrection this October, the popular mouse will enjoy new life as the IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, which Microsoft says will have the tracking and responsiveness gamers have pined for. No longer will devotees of the device have to trawl eBay for the discontinued devices or preserve old versions in protective cases.

Logitech on Thursday also announced new mice, but the pair of fast-scrolling wireless devices is targeted at those who do daily battle with spreadsheets rather than computer-generated warlords or enemy armies.

The main upgrade is the Teflon feet that allow the mouse to glide smoothly on a desk or mouse pad. CNET Reviews liked the customized settings and ergonomic support, but wasn’t too keen on the response of the thumb-side button.
