Tourist buses have bay, will not park

IndianExpress:  Pune owes its traffic problems to lakhs of vehicles on the road, the inadequate public transport system and, in increasing measure, illegally parked tourist buses on several important roads which lead to snarls.

In the absence of designated pick-up points in the city or a bus terminal in the fringes, the 550 buses that start from Pune to five most-sought-after destinations of Mumbai, Solapur, Nashik, Nagpur and Kolhapur park at several vantage points in the city. At present, buses are parked near Pune railway station, opposite Shivajinagar court premises, on Bund Garden and Satara roads.

In view of the rising congestion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in accordance with the Bombay High Court directive in 2000, had promised to provide pick-up points and a bus terminal

Suvarna Sahakari Bank was under watch for 4 months

IndianExpress:  The department of cooperatives had been keeping a close watch on the operation of the Shree Survana Sahakari Bank (SSSB) for the past four months as it was facing financial problems and heading towards insolvency, said additional commissioner in the cooperatives department B G Yashod on Sunday.

He said the bank had been advised to improve its working in view of its poor loan recovery and inadequate deposits. The bank had been warned of stern action, if the position did not improve, he said. Yashod felt that the sudden decision of the board of directors of the bank on Saturday to merge it into the Cosmos Cooperative Bank was rooted in its delicate financial situation.
