IndianExpress: PUNE, with its crumbling infrastructure, is one of the two examples of how emerging meagacities should not be, the other being Pearl River Delta in China. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has taken cognisance of the situation where urbanisation has exceeded the growth of infrastructure and commissioned a research project called Governing Emerging Megacities to seek solutions.
The University of Cologne, Germany, has initiated a two-year study that will cover Pune and the Chinese province. The Institute of Environmental Education and Research (IEER) at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVP) is partnering the study in Pune.

IndianExpress: TWO days after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers ‘hijacked’ Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer in his office over bad condition of Pune roads, Mayor Rajani Tribhuvan again tried to downplay the MNS protest saying, ‘‘Only the Congress has understanding of the condition of Pune roads.’’ She reiterated that the civic administration was doing a commendable job in dealing with the issue.
The statement was made at the bhoomipoojan of the Rs 1 crore project to redevelop three vantage chowks in the city was performed at Jedhe Chowk at Swargate on Saturday.

IndianExpress: LEGENDARY Hindustani classical singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (84), who was admitted to the Sahyadri Superspeciality Hospital on Tuesday, was discharged on Saturday.
According to hospital authorities, Joshi was discharged around 3 pm following improvement in his health. Joshi was admitted to the ICU of the hospital on Tuesday morning after he fainted.

The deplorable condition of the roads is taking its toll on the life and health of citizens. Citizen forums and NGOs are taking to the roads and carrying out rasta roko, morchas and agitations. Political parties are cashing in and gheraoing Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer in his own cabin for over two hours. Petitions are being filed in the court. But instead of improving the road conditions, the PMC is busy projecting the city as an ideal tourist spot

IndianExpress: SYMBIOSIS Joint director Vidya Yerawdekar has been nominated as a member of the General Assembly of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi for three years by ICCR President Karan Singh. The nomination was communicated through a letter from the ICCR Director-General Pavan Verma. Yerawdekar will attend the first meeting at the Azad Bhavan, New Delhi on September 27.
