IndianExpress: Although Congress president Sonia Gandhi has cracked the whip against acquisition of fertile and irrigated lands for Special Economic Zones (SEZ), the farmers of Maan Bachao Kruti Samiti who have been opposing acquisition of their land for expansion of Rajiv Gandhi National Park are not satisfied. The demand for repeal of the SEZ Act and halting land acquisition was voiced at a meeting at Maan on Saturday.
The meeting was addressed by SEZ Sangharsha Samiti leader Ulka Mahajan, former High Court Judge B G Kolse Patil and Manav Kambale of Nagrik Hakka Suraksha Samiti.

IndianExpress: A minor fire broke out at KPIT, Hinjewadi at about 2.15 am on Saturday. A fire tender from Pimpri-Chinchwad fire brigade station was rushed to the spot. Fire brigade officials said an electric generator had caught fire. The fire gutted some batteries and storage material. It was brought under control in half an hour, the officials said.

IndianExpress: The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has revised the tariff of Maha Vitaran. There will be no increase in the rates of power for agricultural sector.
Orders in this regard were issued on Friday. The new tariff will come into effect from October 1 and will remain in force till March 31, 2007.
The MERC had introduced a new category for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) consumers using less than 30 units per month and they will have to pay at the rate of 40 paise per unit.

IndianExpress: The Pune rural police arrested a gang of 22 robbers on Thursday and recovered a Sumo, two six-seater rickshaws, three motorcycles, a TV and sharp weapons worth Rs 9.4 lakh. Ten of the gang were remanded to police custody till October 6.

IndianExpress: Three year old Sulochana died when a speeding truck hit her father Siddeshwar Masal’s two-wheeler on the Katraj ghat on Friday evening.
The bike skid on the loose gravel outside the tunnel and Masal, who could not control it, fell along with his wife and child.

TechTree: According to reports, HP has introduced three high-definition products based on the Gen-Next HD-DVD digital media format.
The products include: a 17-inch wide-screen diagonal HD-DVD Pavilion dv9000t Series Entertainment Notebook PC; an HD-DVD Pavilion Media Center TV m7600n Series PC with 7.1 surround sound; and an HD-DVD external drive for PCs. All products promise superior picture quality, which is the staple of high definition movies.
Besides, HP has unveiled two home storage products that are ideal for storing high-definition movies and rich digital content such as music and photos.
