IndianExpress: Pune’s tryst with Bus Rapid Transit System has hit a roadblock even before it has got started with the civic standing committee on Thursday rejecting six out of seven tenders for the Rs 65-crore pilot project on Pune-Satara and Pune-Solapur roads. This comes only a day after the Centre approved Rs 476 crore for phase I of BRTS on 12 city roads under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. The lone approval came on the strength of the committee chairman’s casting vote after the vote for approval ended in a deadlock.
The damper is quite inopportune as Pune is clearly at the receiving end of central largesse in the form of infrastructure development funds under JN-NURM to the tune of Rs 1,276 crore sanctioned to Pune Municipal Corporation in the last five months.
