JNNURM plans to cover PCB areas

IndianExpress:  Even as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) readies itself to spend the approved corpus of Rs 1100 crore as part of its Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) plan, it will now have to take into account the infrastructure requirements of areas falling under Pune Cantonment Board jurisdiction.

The PCB on Monday received a letter from the Ministry of Urban Development that spells out that the comprehensive city development plan (CDP) for Pune will have to address infrastructure needs pertaining to water supply, sewage and solid waste management in the PCB areas.

The cost of this infrastructure development, however, will have to be borne by the PCB. ‘‘PMC will revise its CDP by including the cantonment CDP in it. However, the money will have to borne by the cantonment itself,’’ said PMC commissioner Nitin Kareer.
