IndianExpress: A day after 20-year-old Reshma Patole of the Matang community from Katewadi in Baramati taluka alleged that she was molested by two youth — Pramod Maruti Zagade (20), Nilesh Mohan Jamdar (22) — at Bhavaninagar bus stand in Indapur on July 11, 2006 and despite a police complaint no arrests were made, the Pune Rural Police said they had arrested both the accused. The Patole family was also provided protection by the police.
Pune Rural SP Vishwas Nangre Patil on Thursday said the duo were arrested by a police squad on Wednesday night. “We found that it was a genuine case and arrested the duo. We have also provided security to the Patole family. Two police guards, including a woman constable, have been deployed,” he added.
The arrests are a small consolation for Reshma.
“After so many months, the police have arrested Zagade and Jamdar. We were taken to the spot for a panchnama on Thursday. But I am afraid there will be a backlash if the duo are released. We may be targeted yet again. On Wednesday evening, a lady approached us and asked us to take back the complaint against the policeman. But as of now I feel strong since people from community are backing me,” she said.

Indianexpress: Leaving aside political differences, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Khed MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil have been trying to boost the Kalyan-Ahmednagar railway line project pending since the past ten years. However, on Tuesday, their efforts received a setback, after Pawar had to cancel his scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss the project.
Local MPs, also keeping aside their differences, are pressing for the project, since it would benefit rural voters of Khed, Junnar, Ambegaon and Shirur. NCP chief Sharad Pawar has held three meetings with Shivsena MP Patil whereas another two were conducted with railway board chairman J P Batra.
Speaking to Newsline, Patil alleged that the Railway Board has not shown any interest in improving infrastructure facilities in the state. “The Kalyan-Ahmednagar railway line has remained neglected for over ten years,” he said.
If the 225-km Kalyan-Ahmednagar railway line sees the light of day, it will boost the economy of the rural areas around by facilitating easy transportation of agro-products to markets in Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. “Daily, several trucks take various products to Mumbai. If the line comes up, there will be better connectivity for without any dependence on other transport alternatives,” Patil said.

IndianExpress: A total of 16 poll related crimes have been reported to the Pune police ever since the model code of conduct for civic polls for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations came into effect since December 13.
Moreover, the police have filed 40 cases of violation of norms pertaining to use of vehicles for electioneering prescribed in the model code of conduct. All these cases were held on Wednesday, a day after police and the PMC election officials formed joint squads to enforce the code of conduct.
Police revealed this in the wake of the major traffic congestion due to show of strength by aspiring candidates going for interviews held by city leadership of Congress over the last three days.
According to the statistics available with the police, nine of the 16 poll related crimes reported ever since the model code of conduct came into force were in connection with Pune civic elections while the remaining seven were in connection with the Pimpri Chinchwad elections.

TechTree: At an event held in Mumbai today, Cellcast Interactive India, a provider of interactive content for television, announced the launch of ‘Sumo.TV’, a pioneering product offering India’s first end-to-end user-generated content (UGC) solution for broadcasters.
The company said that Sumo.TV is a new form of programming and a multi-platform UGC system seamlessly combining TV programming, Web site, and mobile services with a global content pool comprising hundred of hours of the best UGC.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Ramachandran, Vice President of Cellcast UK, said, “Sumo.TV invites individuals to share their personal or creative videos that could be featured on prime time television. All content can be contributed through the newly-launched Web site, at www.sumo.in, where individuals can view, share and manage their own content.”
It is learnt that www.sumo.in is a language and country specific Web site, as the company wants people to provide local content on it. The content types include UGC, talent shows, review shows, citizen journalism, talk shows, VJ and contributor playlists, classic and cult movies, amongst others.
“Sumo.TV has already been launched in the UK and China markets, and has proved a hit with television audiences in those countries. In fact, in the UK, we have started a 24-hour channel with the content contributed solely by viewers. This exceeds what even YouTube or MySpace can provide for their communities,” said Ramachandran.
Sumo.TV, which is available for immediate international syndication, is a tool to empower people at large to general content; a platform for UGC to be on television in ‘Real Time’; can be used by anybody and anywhere; and also an aggression, editing, and packaging tool for broadcasters.
