Students, activists demand extension of Kalam’s tenure

IndianExpress: Nearly 250 school children and citizens under the banner of the Pune Nagrik Manch (PNM) carried out a rally on January 12 to demand that the tenure of President APJ Abdul Kalam be extended. The rally was held to coincide with the National Youth Day, which is celebrated on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birthday.

“We chose this day, in order to glorify the two youth icons from the past and present Swami Vivekananda and President APJ Abdul Kalam,” said PNM Founder President Sujeet Shilamkar.

The rally began at 4.30 pm on Apte Road. It also made a halt to pay respects at the Veer Savarkar statue on Karve Road.

The children represented various sections of the Laxmanrao Apte Prashala, while activists were members of organisations including the Nirman Bharati Foundation, and the Akhil Apte Rasta Nagrik Manch.

The PNM has been conducting an online campaign through web portals www.petitiononline.com and others to demand the extension and have already garnered support of nearly 75,000 online campaigners. Kalam’s term will end in June 2007.

IndianExpress: When Sanjay Ahire, a 31-year-old resident of Shukrwar Peth, saw a fire engulfing a 70-year old wada in his neighbourhood early on Saturday, he just could not stop himself from rushing to rescue the neighbours. However, he was little aware that the same noble act would claim his life.

Sanjay, a heart patient who had married just a year ago, died of a massive cardiac arrest as he could not sustain the psychological shock of the mishap and physical strain that he took while coordinating the rescue at the initial stages, according to the local residents.

Confirming the incident, PMC’s fire station officer S B Sagvekar who was also involved in the fire fighting operations said Sanjay died soon after the fire brigade reached the spot.

Sanjay was among the first ones to rush to the rescue when the fire broke out near Vanraj Mandal in Shukrawar Peth on Saturday morning. Entire first floor and two rooms on the ground floor of the wada owned by Vijay Ramchandra Hemgude were reduced to ashes when they caught fire at about 8.40 am on Saturday.

Transcend Hi-Speed Printer Memory

TechNewsWorld.com: Transcend has announced the release of its Hi-Speed DDR2-533 printer memory.

Specially designed for the new generation of HP laser printers, such as the HP Laserjet P2015/P3005 series, the new printer memory module is totally compatible with HP original memory, including HP P/N, 128MB:CB422A, and 256MB:CB423A.

According to the company, the DDR2 model can enhance the overall performance of the printer. It is regarded as a faster and a better choice for long-lasting and complex printing tasks.

Transcend’s DDR2-533 printer memory for HP Laserjet P2015/P3005 uses 144-pin high quality Printed Circuit Board (PCB).
