Deccan College, PMC join hands to walk down heritage garden

indianexpress:  Take a walk in the lush green Deccan college grounds at Yerwada and understand the evolution of life, nature, culture and ancient history of our country. This is the unique effort undertaken by the city’s prestigious Deccan College as a joint venture with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The target — to set up a one-of-its-kind heritage garden in the city.

The project aims to provide an insight to the public in Indian history in sprawling Deccan College campus. The college spread in 125 acres, has proposed to build a heritage garden in the 8 acre of its land for the purpose.

“We have a huge collection of various ancient documents and artifacts on various subjects. The archeological specimen with the Deccan college has always been attraction to many visiting the college. Thus, we want to make maximum use of it for public and have proposed one of its kind of heritage garden,” Deccan College, director K Paddaya told The Indian Express.

The Deccan College will sign a memorandum of understanding with the PMC for developing the garden. The college will be providing its premises for the garden along with its expertise while the civic body will be responsible for raising all the infrastructure for the purpose and maintain the garden for 20 years,” Paddaya said.

“The project is yet to get clearance from PMC standing committee. It can be completed in six months at a cost of Rs 4 crore,” he added.
