TOI : PUNE: Some 142 students of second-year electronics and telecommunication (E&TC) course at the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering (MAE), Alandi, have been rendered “failed” due to an alleged goof-up on the part of the University of Pune (UoP).
The first term exam result of the second year engineering course, conducted by the UoP, was announced on Saturday.
The concerned MAE students were in for a rude shock when their result sheet showed them marked as “absent” in papers, varying from one to four in number for different students. The E&TC exam was conducted for five subjects and three practicals.
On Monday, worried students approached college principal J.P. George to seek an explanation for the absent mark. The college authorities were at pains to explain that conduct of exam and declaration of result of an affiliated college is done by the university.
One of the affected students, who did not wish to be identified, told TOI that the students were worried. “How can a university of this stature play with our future?” he wondered. Print Save EMail Write to Editor Get personalised news s…More

TOI : PUNE: PCMC municipal commissioner Dilip Band on Tuesday presented a draft budget of Rs 1073.65 crore, as well as a separate component of works costing nearly Rs 853.6 crore to be undertaken as part of JNNURM.
While no major projects have been proposed, the budget focuses on improving civic infrastructure, development of roads, slum rehabilitation and welfare projects, besides providing better educational and medical facilities. Among the important projects are construction of a building for small-scale industries at a cost of Rs 2 crore, construction of a multi-utility sports complex with a seating capacity of 16,000 at Bhosari and modernisation of the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital with provision of angiography and angioplasty facilities.
The total provision for capital works is Rs 616.6 crore. Similarly, a provision of Rs 7.42 crore has been made for emergency works or projects that are not listed in the budget.
Band said he preferred not to include the JNNURM budget in the municipal budget. “The civic administration could have easily shown a budget of over Rs 1,900 crore. The PCMC is always smaller than the Pune Municipal Corporation and it should remain that way,” he observed. While nearly 70 per cent of the PCMC revenue comes by way of octroi, Band said, the municipal corporation is going in for rationalisation of all octroi rates because of which the revenue would be reduced in the next financial year. TOI : PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will begin work on its ambitious project of laying a water pipeline to bring water from Pavana dam to the pumping station and water purification plants in Ravet soon.
Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal commissioner Dilip Band revealed this while addressing a news conference after presenting the draft budget for 2008-09 on Tuesday.
The irrigation department releases water from Pavana dam which reaches the bund at Ravet at a distance of 40 km through the Pavana river. PCMC lifts water from this bund and purifies it before supplying it as drinking water to the residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad township.
The water gets polluted when it travels through the Pavana river. Now the PCMC plans to bring water from Pavana dam through a closed pipeline to Ravet water purification plants.
Band said that the cost of the entire project is Rs 273 crore and the Union government has approved the project to be implemented under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). PCMC has made a provision of Rs 28.51 crore for it in the draft budget.
He said that the PCMC will be laying the 38-km long pipeline from Pavana dam to Ravet under this project. There will be two pipes of 1800 mm diameter each. Print Save EMail Write to Editor Get personalised news s…More
