Now, concessions to couples seeking IVF

TOI : PUNE: Considering exorbitant costs involved in in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), the Pune-based Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital’s IVF centre has announced concession for infertile couples from June.

“There is a section of society which cannot afford this high-cost treatment. Hence, the IVF centre of Mangeshkar hospital has announced concessions from time to time,” said Anand Shinde, male infertility expert at the hospital’s IVF centre. In the very first year, the centre has maintained a respectable success rate of 34 per cent.

“Generally, patients undergoing IVF have a higher abortion rate, but at the IVF centre here has reported only one case of abortion so far,” he said.

Notably, number of couples requiring infertility treatment is rising. Late marriages, stressful work, unhealthy diet, obesity and lack of exercise are some factors that contribute to infertility. Besides, environmental pollutants, which build up toxic levels in our food chain also cause decrease in fertility in both men and women, explained Shinde.

The next free orientation programme will be held at the the IVF centre on May 25 at 4 pm. Print Save EMail Write to Editor Get personalised news s…More

Plywood dealer looted in Marketyard

TOI : PUNE: In a well-planned attempt, three unidentified assailants targeted a plywood businessman in Marketyard, when he was on his way home, and decamped with his scooter containing Rs 1.25 lakh cash. The incident occurred near the Maharashtra state warehousing godown at Marketyard on Saturday night.

Lalitkumar Periwale (30) runs a plywood business at New Timber Market in Bhavani Peth. At around 7.30 pm, he put the day’s collection in the scooter dickey, closed the shop, and set for home.

The suspects, who were travelling triple seat on a motorcycle, first dashed against Periwale’s vehicle at Giridhar Bhavan chowk. Instead of arguing, Periwale advised them to drive properly. For him the matter seemed to have ended there, but the trio had some other plans in mind as they chased him up to some distance and intercepted his vehicle on the lonely road near the Maharashtra state warehousing godown at about 8.15 pm. They thrashed Periwale and flung chutney on his face and decamped with his vehicle (MH12-DE-6368), which contained Rs 1.25 lakh cash. The total loss recorded is Rs 1.65 lakh.

The passers by rushed him to a nearby private hospital where he was treated for itching eyes. Since it was dark, Periwale could not give description of the suspects. Swargate police sub-inspector S Deshmukh said they will interrogate Periwale’s employees. Print Save EMail Write to Editor Get personalised news s…More
