TOI : PUNE: As if talent, temperament and interests were not enough, more and more students are queuing up at the offices of numerologists and astrologers to help them select the right career.
Parents and students approach them to know the inclination of their wards and select the field accordingly. The number goes up following results and psychologists term the tendency as “anxiety tolerance”.
The HSC results were declared recently and the pass percentile was very high. Choosing the field for further study is proving harder for parents and students and so many knock at the doors of numerologists to get guidance.
“Lots of options are available these days. Most students get confused when it comes to selecting the right career,” said Mmanisha Rakshe, a numerologist. Rakshe says in numerology, studying the birth date, name can help find an individual’s area of interest. “One can know if the person has inclination towards arts or science or any other field. We exchange these observations with the parents.” she said.
She pointed that although people approach her throughout the year, the number goes up by around 40 per cent after results are out. Youngsters even demand change of spellings in the name for better prospects.
According to another numerologist Siddharth Joshi, parents from various backgrounds come to him for advice.
“Selecting a career is important and parents and students don’t want to take chances. So they come to us,” he said adding that some times the area of interests chosen by the parents and their wards defer. This leads to a conflict and they come to us to find a way out, he added.
A mother of two, Nikita Rananaware elaborates the reason for approaching a numerologist. “Both my children are young. I thought if I can find their areas of interest at the right time then building a…More

TOI : PUNE: The Divisional Caste Certificate Committee (DCCC) has extended the last date for the validation of caste certificates. Students, belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, nomadic tribes, OBCs etc have been given this extension, as per a DCCC notification.
Those students who have passed their HSC examination can submit their applications to the principal of the college where they studied, till June 30.
The respective college can submit such applications to the district social welfare officer till July 11. The concerned official would forward the applications to DCCC for validation till July 19. The last date for validating certificates by DCCC is September 30.
The decision to extend the date has been taken to cater to the students who have applied for admissions at various professional and degree courses.
The notification also makes it clear that if a caste certificate is found to be not proper during the validating process and as a consequence if the process of validating gets prolonged due to various cross scrutinisation, following which if the student fails to apply or get admission, the state government could not be held responsible. A written consent would be taken towards this from students at the time of accepting their applications.
The notification also clarifies that the last date will not be extended further. …More

TOI : PUNE: A gang of six men looted Rs 9.70 lakh at gun point from the Aundh branch of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) at 9.40 am on Monday. The dacoits, who were armed with revolvers and knives, locked the bank staff and customers in the locker room before making good their escape. Ironically, the bank does not have security guards at any of its branches in the city.
According to the police, one of the dacoits, who posed as a customer, entered the bank at Gaikwad Heights in Sane Wadi at Aundh at 9.30 am. Four staff members, including manager Sandhya Viththal, and two-three customers were present in the bank. He asked for some forms and immediately left the bank.
After a few minutes, he came back with his accomplices, who were armed with four pistols and two knives, the police said. They threatened the staff and the customers at gun point. One them barged into the cabin of Viththal and dragged her into the locker room at gun point. The other staff members and customers were also taken to the locker room.
The dacoits then threatened Viththal and told her to open the safe in the locker room. They collected the cash in two bags. The hoodlums later snatched the mobile phones from the staff and customers and locked the door from outside. The dacoits also closed the main shutter of the bank from outside before decamping with the booty.
One of the staff members, who hid the mobile phone in his pocket, called sub-inspector S.D. Koli of the Chatuhshrungi police station. The police reached the spot within five minutes and freed the bank staff and the customers from the locker room.
Deputy Commissioner of police (zone-3) Chandrashekhar Daithankar told reporters that the bank does not have any security guard. Only five bank employees, including four women, were…More

The proposal was approved unanimously.

TOI : PUNE: The civic administration’s decision to ban use of municipal schools for marriage and other functions has not gone down well with the corporators, who have requested the civic administration to give a second thought to the proposal considering the needs of poor people.
The general body (GB) of the PMC unanimously approved the resolution requesting the civic administration to make a rethink on the ban imposed. The corporator argue that 40-43 per cent of city’s population lives in slums and they can’t afford to pay heavy rents for marriage halls. Hence the PMC schools should be thrown open for them.
Meanwhile, the GB also approved the proposal to regularise the gunthewari houses till March, 2009. The GB deferred the proposal to implement the pay and park scheme for two-wheelers on 12 roads in the city. The proposal stated that pay and park should be applied for two and four wheelers with charges of Rs 10 per hour for four wheelers and Rs 2 for two-wheelers per hour.
