TOI : PUNE: Be it on friendship, patriotism, ‘ishq-mijazi’ (love) or ‘ishq-e-haqiqi’ (divine love), Hakim Raazi Adeebi’s ’shayari’ or Urdu poetry is par excellence.
For Pune’s senior most and popular poet, shayari is an inseparable part of life. “Life is a poetry,” says the 88-year-old Unani practitioner in his 4×4 shop near Shivaji market in Pune camp.
So, what is it that brought out the shayar in you? Prompt came the reply: “Sukoone dil ka sahara mila na jab Raazi, to ikhtiyar ki ghabra ke shayari meine (On failing to find contentment of heart Raazi, so nervously I delved into shayari).
Recovering from his shayari mood, he says, “I have been fond of shayari since my school days at Yeola in Nashik district, where I was born in 1920. However, a chance meeting with my Ustad, Shaer-e-Hayat Hazrat Adeeb Malegaonvi, was a turning point in my life.”
Is Urdu Shayari losing popularity. Not at all, says he. In fact, Urdu Shayari is gaining popularity.
“It’s a wrong assumption that today’s generation is not interested in Urdu poetry. Shayari is being printed in the Devnagari script for those who can’t read Urdu. This itself goes to prove that it is becoming more popular.”
For Raazi, writing or saying a sher (couplet) only depends upon his mood and that there is no fixed time for that. Give him a subject and there he is ready with a sher.
“Sometimes, it is ‘ilhami’ (natural). He again gets poetic: “Tadbeer wa amal dono zaroori to hai Raazi lekin; padta hai muqaddar pay duaon ka asar.” The poet has also received ‘khilafat’ from the late spiritual leader Hazrat Peer Abdul Ghafoor Bakhshullah Shah Ashrafi.
Known for his penchant for writing ’sehra’ (for bride and groom), friends and acquaintances throng to him with an invitation for marriage and a request for…More

TOI : PUNE: The Paud police have arrested Lonavla-based real estate agent Khurshid Bohari (42) for allegedly changing the classification of an agricultural land at Deoghar-Nangaon villages in Mulshi taluka for selling it to a businessman in Solapur.
He was remanded to police custody till August 2 by judicial magistrate first class R.B. Bhagwat. He was arrested on a complaint lodged by assistant inspector Dnyaneshwar Ganore of the local crime branch of the Pune rural police.
Bohari’s involvement came to light while conducting an inquiry into a complaint application filed by Jejus Sudhir Lal of Malad at Mumbai, saying that someone has changed the survey numbers of his property.
The inquiry revealed that Bohari had obtained power of attorney of Shah of Mumbai in respect of a land at Deoghar-Nangaon. He had sold some parts of the agricultural land on the basis of the power of attorney and by forging documents to show that it was non-agricultural land. Bohari had even got the documents notarised from a lawyer practising at the Bombay High Court.
The probe brought to light the fact that Bohari had sold a plot to Suhas Balbhim Deshmukh of Solapur in 2005.
Bohari is involved in cheating and extortion cases registered at Lonavla and Paud. He is also involved in another cheating case registered with the Surat police. The suspect is being charged for cheating the government for allegedly tampering with the non-agricultural certificate. Print EMail DiscussNew B…More

TOI : PUNE: If you spot the hitherto unarmed traffic cops wielding batons at junctions and roads in the city, don’t be surprised. Raucous motorists have prompted the force to make use of the power granted to them.
Four cases of motorists manhandling traffic cops on duty were reported in the last one week. “We filed complaints and got them arrested. However, for the safety of our officers and personnel on duty, we have purchased 800 batons,” deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Manoj Patil said.
Every traffic cop will carry a baton, Patil said. “We have given them orders to be polite to motorists and the batons will be used only as a last resort. The traffic police have also been told to inform their senior officers in case of any manhandling.” Moreover, the local police stations have been ordered to help the traffic police in such cases, he added.
The 800-odd traffic police personnel will also receive masks. “After receiving orders from the police commissioner, we are planning to purchase 800 masks for the cops,” Patil said. The purchases were made from the traffic branch office expenditure, he added.
Meanwhile, the number of cases registered against errant motorists has increased from 1,200 to around 2,300 daily. “The only solution for streamlining traffic is imposing fines on violators of rules. We are not interested in increasing our collection or the number of cases,” Patil said.
To improve the traffic situation on Karve road, Patil said they have stopped the area traffic control system between Khandoji Baba chowk and Nalstop chowk. “We are trying to synchronise the signals. More fine-tuning will be done in the coming days.”
He said they would also synchronise the signals on the road from airport to Rajbhavan on a priority basis in view of the Commonwealth Youth Games. Print EMail DiscussNew B…More
