TOI : PUNE: The death toll in the fire that broke out at the bio-medical waste disposal plant of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at the Kailas crematorium premises on Thursday has risen to seven.
All the six workers of the plant who received severe burn injuries succumbed to the injuries during treatment in a private hospital. One person, Shabbir Gani Khan (29), had died on the spot on the day of the incident. Another person, Manohar Chatsingh Sotte (24), died on Friday.
Four other victims, Mayur Anand Sanke (18), Ravindra Balasaheb Salvi (18) and Ritesh Maruti Kakde (18) all from Wanowrie and Piyush Shekhar Jagtap (17) of Azadnagar in Wanowrie died during the previous two days. Popat Sukhdeo Rokde (18) of Rajiv Gandhinagar in Salunkhe Vihar died on Monday afternoon.
According to the medical officer at the hospital, all the victims had suffered more than 80 per cent burn injuries and their condition was critical when they were brought in.
The fire had broken out at the bio-medical waste disposal plant on Thursday while the deceased were puncturing out-dated body spray containers.

TOI : PUNE: City rivers flowed full on Ganesh immersion day as water was released from Khadakwasla, Mulshi and Pavana dams. The dams recorded a spillway at a maximum rate of 15,000 cusecs, 18,000 cusecs and 5,000 cusecs respectively on Sunday.
The water levels in all 6 dams supplying water to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad reached their optimum storage capacity, following continuous rainfall in the catchment areas over the last three days. On Sunday, water was discharged Khadakwasla dam at the rate of 10,000 cusecs. However, the discharge was increased to 15,000 cusecs on Sunday night. Discharge continued on Monday at the rate of 9,000 cusecs.
“The discharge was maintained at the rate of 10,000 cusecs on immersion day but brought down on Monday,” said Vijay Ghogre, superintending engineer, Khadakwasla irrigation department. “This is one of those rare occasions when water has been discharged at this rate.”
“This is the third time this season that water has been released at a rate of more than 10,000 cusecs from Khadakwasla dam,” he said. “The water level had reduced to 76% over the last two weeks after water was released for irrigation purposes. However, continuous rainfall has filled it up again. All 4 dams — Panshet, Temghar, Warasgoan and Khadakwasla — have a water storage of 27.42 TMC. Pavana and Kasarsai, the dams supplying water to Pimpri-Chinchwad, have 9.08 TMC water storage.”
Water is being released from all 13 dams in the Mula-Mutha and Neera basin. Ujani dam, with the biggest storage capacity, recorded water release at the rate of 40,000 cusecs. TOI : PUNE: Three youths drowned in the canal near Dias plot on Sunday at around 4 pm while attending the Ganesh immersion process.
The victims were identified as Rajesh Jarmandi (25), Rahul Jindal (21) and Naresh Mykal (24) all from Solapur. Fire brigade officials fished out one of the bodies, that of Mykal from the canal on Monday.
The trio had entered the canal near Dias plot for Ganesh immersion. However, they failed to return to the shore due to the strong current of water. The search operation for the other two, Jindal and Jarmandi, was carried out till late Monday evening.

TOI : PUNE: The repeaters exams for secondary school certificate (SSC – std X) and higher secondary certificate (HSC – std XII) conducted by the Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher secondary education will commence from September 18 across the state.
The repeaters exam will be conducted as per the old as well as new curricula through divisional boards at Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik and Latur. The exam dates have been fixed keeping in mind the Commonwealth Youth Games and Diwali breaks. This will be the last chance for students to appear for the exam as per the old curriculum of SSC and HSC.
A statement released by board secretary Vinay Dakshindas here on Monday said that 81,643 students are expected to appear for the SSC exam as per the new curriculum and class improvement scheme. Another 80,176 students following the old curriculum are also expected to appear for the exam. As many as 54,032 students following the new curriculum and 64,898 students following the old curriculum are expected to appear for the HSC exam.
The statement said that for HSC students following the old curriculum, multiple question paper system will be followed for the English subject. All language papers for students following the new curriculum will consist of two segments — a written exam for 80 marks and an oral exam for 20 marks. Exam for environment education is compulsory and will be conducted at the junior college level during the practical exams. On-line exam will continue for information technology subject for which 30 students will appear as per old curriculum and 468 as per new curriculum.
For the SSC exam, students appearing under the old curriculum will have 100 marks papers for science and social science subjects but their marks will be converted into out of 150 because the SSC exam as per old curriculum used to…More

TOI : PUNE: A couple was found dead in a well at Nimhan farm in Pashan on Saturday. The duo was missing since Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Prajakta Prakash Godambe (17), a resident of Shikshak colony, Pashan and Sambhaji Ganpat Mhaske (27) of Pashan.
Prajakta was studying in class 11 and was apparently in love with Sambhaji, who owned a small bakery in Pashan. They were missing since Wednesday. Investigations revealed that they had committed suicide, the reason for which is not known yet. Their bodies were found tied with nylon ropes.
