Waste disposal plant fire toll reaches 7

TOI : PUNE: The death toll in the fire that broke out at the bio-medical waste disposal plant of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at the Kailas crematorium premises on Thursday has risen to seven.

All the six workers of the plant who received severe burn injuries succumbed to the injuries during treatment in a private hospital. One person, Shabbir Gani Khan (29), had died on the spot on the day of the incident. Another person, Manohar Chatsingh Sotte (24), died on Friday.

Four other victims, Mayur Anand Sanke (18), Ravindra Balasaheb Salvi (18) and Ritesh Maruti Kakde (18) all from Wanowrie and Piyush Shekhar Jagtap (17) of Azadnagar in Wanowrie died during the previous two days. Popat Sukhdeo Rokde (18) of Rajiv Gandhinagar in Salunkhe Vihar died on Monday afternoon.

According to the medical officer at the hospital, all the victims had suffered more than 80 per cent burn injuries and their condition was critical when they were brought in.

The fire had broken out at the bio-medical waste disposal plant on Thursday while the deceased were puncturing out-dated body spray containers.

The Bund Garden police have arrested the assistant manager of the plant, Piyush Solanki (38), and supervisor Hemant Jagjal. Print EMail DiscussNew B…More
