New case against Marne
TOI : PUNE: The Kothrud police on Saturday arrested Gajanan Marne (43) of Shastrinagar in another case where he allegedly opened fire on businessman Sameer Patil of Sangli on May 12.
The police will produce Marne before a court on Sunday to seek police custody remand in the fresh case.
It may be noted that Marne was earlier arrested for allegedly opening fire on criminal Nilesh Ghaywal as a fallout of inter-gang rivalry on June 12. He was taken into custody after he surrendered before the court on June 24.
Following the expiry of his police custody in Ghaywal’s case, Marne and others were produced before judicial magistrate first class G G Itkalkar on Saturday. The suspects were then sent to magisterial custody.
However, inspector Gautam Deshmukh, in-charge of the Kothrud police station, later obtained Marne’s custody in Patil’s case after seeking the court’s permission, said assistant public prosecutor A V Ausekar. The gangster will now be produced before the court on Sunday to obtain his police custody remand in Patil’s case. Meanwhile, some suspects involved in this case are yet to be arrested, Ausekar added.
It may be noted that Patil, his partner and his driver who were travelling in a car escaped with minor injuries after a gang of about seven people opened fire and also attacked the car with sharp weapons at the Bhusari colony near Reliance Fresh on Paud road on May 12.
The Kothrud police have identified Patil’s partner as Rajshekhar Birajdar and driver as Rahul alias Navnath Deokar. The businessman had identified the assailants as Marne, his nephew Bapu Pawar and four to five unidentified people, the police added.
Patil has registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
