Probe on in Mankar case: Police
TOI : PUNE: The Vishrambaugh police on Saturday said that there was substantial progress in investigations against Congress corporator Deepak Mankar, who was arrested in Mumbai recently for acquiring a bank property in Sadashiv Peth at a throw away price.
Mankar was arrested outside the Bombay High Court on Thursday evening and was brought to Pune the same evening. He was on Friday send to police custody till July 6.
Mankar was accused of grabbing the co-operative bank’s property in Sadashiv Peth after a complaint was registered by former bank director Shekhar Wambure with the Vishrambaugh police station on June 19. The police have invoked provision of section 3 (25) of the Arms Act against Mankar as he had allegedly threatened Wambure with a revolver.
Inspector Subhash Nikam (crime) of the Vishrambaugh police said, “There is some progress, but we will not divulge any details right now. The outcome of interrogation will be given to the court when he (Mankar) will be produced before the magistrate court, following expiry of his police custody on Monday.”
When asked if Mankar was co-operating, Nikam replied, “Why will he not co-operate with the police in conducting further investigations.”
