Three cases of dengue reported from PCB areas

TOI : PUNE: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), an area that did not have a single case of dengue last year, reported three confirmed cases of dengue this year.

“After these cases came to light, the PCB has undertaken several steps to create awareness among the residents,” said PCB president Brig Rajbir Singh. He added that apart from the awareness drives, fumigation works will be carried out in areas.

Singh informed that apart from putting up posters telling people about dengue, its causes and symptoms, a door-to-door awareness drive has been undertaken and the health department officials will be going to all the wards in the area to educate people.

“We don’t have a dedicated team for this work, but officials at the health department are managing the work,” he said.

Cantonment hospital officials said that these cases have been reported from areas in and around the M G road.

Karan Makwani, a member of health committee of the PCB, said that combating dengue is not the PCB’s responsibility alone, “people too should be forthcoming”. “They should keep the area clean. Unnecessary collection of water should be avoided,” he said.

Spread a radius of 30 sq km, PCB is vulnerable to the dengue virus as it is adjust to areas where dengue cases have been found. So special measures are required to curtail the spread of this disease, experts said.

Dilip Sarada, president of Indian Medical Association, said that areas like Kondhwa and central areas of the Cantonment are as vulnerable to the virus as are the Peth areas in the city.
