G4S security services booked for breaching licence conditions
TOI : PUNE: The Yerawada police booked the management of G4S Security Services (India) Private Limited, Pune branch, on Tuesday night. Investigations into the gang rape and murder of software engineer Nayana Phatak-Pujari of Katraj have revealed that the firm was in breach of conditions laid down for private security agencies.
G4S is a leading international security solutions provider. It operates in over 110 countries and has 5,85,000 employees world-wide. The company has expertise in business processes where security and safety risks are considered a strategic threat.
The police have registered a complaint against G4S under section 188 (disobedience of order promulgated by public servants) of the Indian Penal Code. “The firm has breached the licence conditions issued under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005,” said senior police inspector Deepak Sawant, in charge of the Yerawada police station, on Wednesday.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the case, including Rajaram Chaudhary of Khed.
It was revealed that G4S had deployed Chaudhary as a security guard at software company Synechron in Kharadi. Pujari was working at Synechron when she was kidnapped, raped and murdered on October 7. Her body was then dumped at the Zarewadi forest area in Khed about 50 km from Pune.
According to Inspector Vishwanath Ghanwat (crime), who is investigating the case, G4S obtained its licence from the Mumbai police to operate in Maharashtra. “However, the firm conducted Chaudhary’s verification from the Chakan police station, instead of the office of the superintendent of police, Pune rural at the time of recruiting him on June 26, 2006,” Ghanwat added.
According to him, Chaudhary was deputed at Synechron only for one day, the day he and his three accomplices allegedly kidnapped the software engineer when she was waiting outside the office gate for public transport to get home. Two day’s later he participated in a condolence meet held for Pujari at Synechron.”…More
